Dining in Bohol
When it comes to dining, the islands' visitor will be amazed at the wide area of cuisines one can choose from. One can indulge in authentic international cuisines such as European, American, Asian, Indian and vegetarian. For the more adventurous gourmet, one can go on a journey around Bohol and sample the wide range of flavours from the various regional kitchens.
The exotic native cuisine is a spicy blend of the many different cultures the country has come in contact with through the centuries. Thus, the Filipino cuisine is a merry mix of Malay, Spanish, Chinese, Japanese, and American flavours.
The fresh use of coconut milk or gata as a cooking ingredient is of Malay origin Popular dishes like lumpia or lumpiang shanghai [spring rolls filled with vegetables or meat and vegetables] and pancit [noodles mixed with pork, shrimps and vegetables] are Chinese. Several Filipino traditional dishes still retain their Spanish names such as mechado [beef with pork fat], menudo [diced meat and potatoes stewed in tomato sauce], and pochero [a blend of pork, cabbage, green beans and other vegetables]. In some dining spots specializing in native dishes, the Filipino Kamayan [eating with your hands] is recommended for a truly native experience.
Very American are the fast food chains that serve fried chicken, hamburgers, hot dogs, pizzas, spaghetti and other popular fares. In other words, no matter what your palette, you are sure to find something to suit your taste.
Loboc River Cruise Lunch
Grilled seafood (like tigerprawns, calamari, lapu-lapu fish) BBQ chicken and pork and some grilled vegetables and omelette served with rice. Fresh fruits for desert and coffee/tea to follow. Although it was pricey, it was super delicious. There is a man on a guitar serenading Spanish and popular songs in the 80s thoughout the whole cruise.
